The 10 oz can is the one most desks settle on. It lasts a season of keyboard work and still stands in a shallow drawer.
The size the line is drawn around
Most of what leaves our plant leaves it as a 10 oz can. The trigger, the nozzle and the straw were all worked out at this size, and it is the one people mean when they say a can of Dust-Off.
Alone or by the pack
The same can comes on its own, in twos and threes for a house with more than one desk, and in a twelve pack for somewhere that keeps one in every room.
It stands where you put it
A 10 oz can has a base wide enough to hold itself upright on a shelf or in a drawer. That matters more than it sounds, because a can worth using is a can you can grab without thinking about which way up it was left.
What one can gets through
A single 10 oz can covers a home desk for the better part of a year: the crumbs under the key switches, the felt on the tower intake, the dust that settles on a monitor stand between cleanings. Nobody empties one in a week unless they are working through a stack of machines.
The multipacks exist for the other pattern. If there is a desk upstairs, a desk downstairs and a workbench in the garage, three cans in three places beat one can that lives wherever it was last used.
When to step up or down
Step down to a small can when the can has to travel. A 10 oz can is not a camera bag can, and the smaller sizes exist because people kept trying to make it one.
Step up to a 12 or 17 oz can when the cleaning is somebody's job rather than somebody's Saturday. A lab bench, a rental counter or a repair shop runs through cans at a rate that makes the bigger tin and the full case worth the shelf space.
